Abstract

The ALEPH Patron Placed Holds (PPH) function, developed for the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) to replicate the sophisticated automated resource sharing service the USMAI has utilized between thirteen institutions for over ten years, targets title level holds rather than item level holds. This process eliminates the need for the patron to identify an eligible copy from the list of campuses holdings. The selection of an eligible item is handled by ALEPH and another process called Balance.
