Abstract

Primo normalization rules are installation-level rules that control how bibliographic metadata displays and functions in the Primo front end. Primo customers who are part of collaborative networks using a centralized Alma publishing pipe to Primo face special challenges when managing these rules. This is because member institutions cannot define their own Primo norm rules, but must rely on a norm rule set defined at the network (installation) level.

In this session, the current and past chairs of the Orbis Cascade Alliance’s (Primo) Normalization Rules Working Group will share the Alliance’s policies and processes for the central management of Primo norm rules. The presentation will cover gathering requests for rule changes, planning and prioritizing changes, building and testing desired changes, implementing changes in the production environment, and all of the communication required to ensure a smooth norm rules management process.
