Abstract

This presentation illustrates two recent projects at The College of New Jersey Library using open-source tools to help enhance ejournal access and cataloging workflow in our Voyager database. The Library began using Ebsco Publication Finder service for e-journal access in early 2016. To make ejournal access also available on OPAC, we obtained free MARC records via OCLC’s WorldShare Metadata Services and used open-source tools to match and add Ebsco permanent links to each bibliographic record in batch. When the Library switched to Serials Solutions 360 Link in late 2016, the same batch workflow was used to replace Ebsco’s links with Serials Solutions' links. Also, the Library recently developed a workflow to clean over 10,000 records containing incorrect genre/form headings flipped from LC subject headings during authority control process. We used tools such as OpenRefine and Gary Strawn’s Cataloger’s Toolkit to detect and batch-flip invalid LCGFT terms back to LC subject headings .
