Abstract

In this session, we'll discuss how Harvard approached training more than 700 staff in 30 locations on two continents. Koerber will review pre-training planning, coordinating the train-the-trainer and staff training segments, and encouraging informal learning opportunities. Skoric will focus on these "after-the-training trainings" - including learning circles and "gardening glove" sessions - and discuss her experience as Training Working Group member, trainer, and unit manager during the entire process. After describing what worked and what didn't, and why we made the choices we did, Koerber will look ahead to the self- and manager-directed long-term training program (currently in development and launching in late May 2019).
Attendees will come away with a variety of approaches to training, insight into what it means to scale up existing models to a very large scope, and how to plan for a long-term "trainerless training program."
