Abstract

Maribeth Manoff, Systems Librarian, University of Tennessee;
Mike Rogers, IT Administrator, University of Tennessee.

This presentation describes how we converted "Photocopy Request" functionality into a customized article request service for offsite Storage. Using this service, patrons can place article requests for Storage items via the web catalog. Library staff retrieve the items, scan the articles, and place PDFs on the server. A custom program processes each request, emails the patron a PDF containing their scanned article, and updates the request status. Requests not found or having bad citations are processed too, with appropriate patron notification via email. We hope the audience learns the workflow and details on how to set up this useful service.
