Abstract

Glenn Manino, Library Systems Integration Analyst, Boston College.

Much of Primo's flexibility arises from its database structure, in which records from many different sources are “normalized” into a standard “PNX” record format. One important task in setting up Primo is to create or customize the Normalization Rules that build these PNX records. This presentation gives an overview of how records from ALEPH, DigiTool, and other sources are turned into Primo PNX records. It also provides a software tool, “PriView” which makes it easier to follow records as they are transformed into PNX, helps document the normalization process, and even translates the sometimes obscure normalization rules into a more compact and readable format.
