Using the SFX API (Panel Presentation) Using the SFX API to Access Ejournals Within the Catalog Anne L. Highsmith, Consortia Systems Coordinator, Texas A&M University This presentation details how Texas A&M University enhanced the OpenURL capability within Endeavor's Webvoyage. Now the OpenURL button appears within Webvoyage only when the SFX API reports full text available. The resulting functionality reliably provides access to full text for the ejournals without adding 856 fields to cataloging records. Using the SFX API within the CDL Common Framework Margery Tibbetts, California Digital Library The CDL is currently using the SFX API in two projects, the PubMed Order function and the CDL's NSDL funded earth sciences portal. PubMed Order does a direct call to the SFX API and the Earth Sciences Portal uses a new module in the CDL's Common Framework. This presentation will discuss the development of the two SFX API interfaces, challenges encountered along the way and the promise for the future. Facilitating Expedited Document Delivery Using the SFX API Mark Dehmlow, Electronic Services Librarian, University of Notre Dame This presentation covers how we are using the SFX API to provide more seamless access to journal titles we lost through cancelling a major electronic journal package. The SFX API allows us to verify and deliver express document delivery for eligible volumes, full text when available, or standard interlibrary loan. |
| Shibboleth - Authentication and Single Sign On at USMAI David Kennedy, Programmer and Jean Phillips, Manager, Library Systems Development, University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) At USMAI, we have implemented the Shibboleth architecture to create a secure single sign on to our library services (Metalib, SFX, EZProxy, ILLiad ...). We worked with Ex Libris to integrate PDS with Shibboleth. We have laid the groundwork for single sign on to non-library resources across our consortium. Presentation to include a brief overview of the Shibboleth architecture, our implementation plan and details (decisions, resources, etc), and future plans for Shibboleth. | |

This paper will detail the Florida State University Libraries strategies to more effectively consolidate operations, collections, metadata, and permissions for Electronic Theses & Dissertations (ETDs) into a single, more cohesive online resource, using DigiTool 3.0. | ALEPH Web OPAC Usage Analysis Using Z69 Hong Zhou (University of Albany, SUNY) In July 2004, Ex Libris announced a new Oracle table, Z69, in ALEPH version 16 service pack 259. The new table provides new ways to collect statistical data of Web OPAC in ALEPH. We implemented this service pack in our library online cataloging system (Minerva) in January 2005. Innovative Uses of SFX (Panel Presentation) Utilizing SFX's Export Tool to maintain electronic resources collection Dr. Vladimir Makarov, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Library The presentation describes our experience with utilizing SFX's Export Tool to generate an XML file which is then processed by a java application to update our electronic resources collection. We will also demonstrate our enhanced A-Z pages capabilities, which are integrated with our library portal and have been extended to include a variety of digital resources. Using SFX in Course Reserves Jean Rainwater, Leader, Web Services Department, Brown University Library Describes use of SFX Citation Linker as the intake form for course reserve requests in a home-grown course reserve system. An SFX menu embedded in an iframe delivers immediate information about full text availability to the instructor. Scanning requests can be correctly routed, and unnecessary copyright tests are avoided. Testing of a new SFX target service to generate course reserve requests directly from databases and for books from our online catalog will also be described. |

An integral part of our technology solution is our use of the SFX API.
