Abstract
Libraries are constantly seeking to provide exceptional service and deliver this service for the lowest possible cost. It behooves the modern library to stay in step with what their patrons want. At the same time, space constraints, especially for academic libraries, require consideration of alternative formats and delivery methods for materials. Additionally, the immediacy of electronic formats appeals to students and faculty who rarely visit the physical library building. Often librarians and staff who are most comfortable and familiar with print formats can be taken aback by the price tag of electronic resources or may be uncertain about how best to handle the cataloging and associated record-keeping of electronic acquisitions. With staff complements shrinking along with budgets, it can seem like a daunting task to consider implementing a robust ebook purchasing program. We will share the pressures that led to developing the strategies we are using at Oklahoma State University to help us expand our ebook collections economically while maintaining lean workflows.
